car2go is an innovative mobility concept providing “on-demand” transportation. Members of car2go have access to a free-floating network of smart fortwo vehicles 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Members can easily locate available car2go vehicles using the internet, a mobile device or by contacting the car2go customer support center. car2go members can reserve a vehicle up to 24 hours in advance or simply access an available vehicle on the street by initiating a rental with their membership card.
car2go’s first North American pilot program is based in Austin, Texas following the successful implementation of the innovative mobility concept in Ulm, Germany.
The car2go iPhone application developed by rrooaarr interactive solutions offers an easy way to locate available car2go vehicles for “on-demand” transportation.
The application identifies your position and the address of the next available car2go including the vehicle’s license plate, fuel level, distance to the vehicle and the approximate time to walk to the car2go.
Application features include:
- Displays the user position in relation to the nearest available car2go. The car2go is specified by the vehicle’s position (address), license plate, fuel level, distance to the vehicle and the, approximate time to walk to the car2go.
- Displays available car2go vehicles available in map and table view, including license plate, address of vehicle, fuel level, interior and exterior condition
- Displays dedicated car2go parking locations available in map and table view
- Locates a member’s reserved car2go by using the reservation code
- Table view for car2go and parking locations includes distance indication
- Detailed information including route calculation from the user’s current location to a specified car2go or parking location
- By clicking on the pins, more information about the current point on the map will be displayed.
- Instructions screen with images displaying how to start using a car2go.
Comment about using the iPad to determine a user position
The accuracy of the position is dependent of the data sent to the iPad.
The device may define the user position by using GPS, Wi-Fi or triangulation from 3 mobile transmission towers.
Wi-Fi is the most accurate method to define a position. If there is no Wi-Fi available, the device will use either GPS or triangulation.
GPS (available on iPads with sim-card included) is very accurate as well, but may be limited when used indoors.
Triangulation works on every type of iPads , but only when the signal is strong. It is not as accurate as GPS. If the device is not able to define the position correctly, a nearby position will be displayed instead.
For this reason, there may be variances in the user location displayed and that is unfortunately beyond our sphere of influence. Please be aware of this while using the application.
